Roots

We think of roots,

And we look to the trees.

Often failing to acknowledge

Our own history.

Reaching for the sky,

In a bid to break free.

Did you forget your place

Within these galaxies?

The sooner we feel

Our connection to another,

Louder the heartbeat

Becomes of our mother.

Just as nature itself

Spend trillions of years,

Evolving through time

Simply to be here,

We, too, have a purpose.

Branching far deeper

Than any surface.

In times of sorrow,

Or utter despair,

Remember the union

That we all share.

The same force

That nests a bird

Or encourages a seed to grow

Simply echoes

What unites us all.

These roots that guide us home.
